Size Matters, Too: A Request for Katrina Relief -- "Help In All Sizes!"
(ContentDesk) September 21, 2005 -- Body size diversity is an issue that deserves as much attention in the relief efforts as does race, class and the elderly. Many reports indicate that nearly 60-75% of all Americans are of larger body size and weight. Other reports show a significant concentration of people of size in the southern states. The Surgeon General calls it an epidemic; others, a crisis. However you look at it the simple truth is that we come in all shapes and sizes and no matter how we got to the size we are, the needs of people of size are equally as important as any other group or class.
Therefore, when we are contemplating how we will meet the needs of the victims in this and future tragedies, we must consider this diversity of people. We want to not only meet their needs, but help make them as comfortable as possible while they are in transition to more permanent housing and existence. A properly fitted piece of clothing is so comforting. Large and super size clothing can be found at the following Retailers: Lane Bryant, The Avenue, Catherines, Fashion Bug, and most discount department stores.
